Medical – Panama 2017

June 3-9, 2018 Global Brigades at WKU participated in a medical/public health hybrid brigade.

On this brigade, our chapter provided primary health care services to small, under-resourced, rural communities with limited to no access to medical care. Students participated in a 3 day medical clinic working in triage, shadowing physicians/dentists, providing educational workshops, and distributing medicines in the pharmacy while local physicians completed patient consultations and prescribed treatment for acute illness. To keep our service ethically responsible, students were only allowed to act in roles for which they have formal training.

On our last day, we participated in a public health project. This included building six sanitation stations.
